Eero Wi-Fi System Is Twice As Powerful As Normal Routers

For more than four years, eero has specialized in next-generation Wi-Fi. The company is the first to bring the mesh network concept into the home, a network of interconnected terminals that create a much better Wi-Fi signal than a single router. Since then, this strategy has been widely deployed and several players offer similar solutions, including Google.

Eero's solution shines by its simplicity and performance and the manufacturer did not stop there. It presents today a new generation with terminals twice as powerful as before. The range is up to twice as large and the expected flow rates are up to twice as high. Compared to the first generation, the main difference is the addition of a third antenna that supports three frequencies at the same time: 2.4 GHz, 5.2 GHz, and 5.8 GHz.

The user has nothing to configure however, the terminals communicate with each other to determine the best strategy according to the places and connected devices. You will have the best possible Wi-Fi 802.11ac network for the number of eero installed and you will be able to add terminals to complete the grid. The manufacturer has also introduced a new product to facilitate this point with the beacon, a smaller Wi-Fi router to connect directly to a wall outlet.

This device is reminiscent of what Apple was selling at a time (while the base router of eero recalls a product still marketed) is not as powerful as the classic base, but more than the first generation. Sold $149, this terminal is cheaper and it simplifies the extension of the network while serving as a night light. At night, a light automatically turns on down to guide the whole family.

Even if eero can work with a single module, the whole point of the system is to combine several terminals and there is no limit to the number of connected elements. The manufacturer sells packs from $299 for smaller houses. Unfortunately, it is a product still strictly American to this day.

While waiting for deployment outside US borders, eero improves its offer on two points. The first is theoretical, but its routers are the first to support Thread, a new standard dedicated to home automation. For the moment, no accessory supports it, but in theory, it could be the future standard and the manufacturer's terminals will be ready.

Also, a premium offer with subscription adds some features, such as advanced parental restrictions or protection against viruses and malicious sites. An anti-DDoS is also included in eero Plus, an offer that is expected to be inflated in terms of functions over time.
